RE: Changes in Federal Financial Aid Procedures
In January seniors should apply for Financial Aid by submitting the Federal FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. If your student will be applying to a California School, he/she will also submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form.
Currently Torrance Unified School District submits Cal Grant information electronically to the California Student Aid Commission. In order to submit the information accurately, West High requests that you complete the above survey. Completion by the student/parent will insure there are no errors made. We cannot submit your student’s information to the Student Aid Commission without the Social Security number. You may choose to NOT submit the information, however please complete the survey and type REFUSE in the SS# field. The Social Security number matches the student with financial information submitted in the FAFSA. If no match can be made, your student would be ineligible for California funds available to help finance his/her college education.
In February, in order to ensure that your SSN was submitted correctly, you can establish a WebGrant check account by logging into https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov after you receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the government acknowledging receipt of your FAFSA form and requesting your review of the information submitted.
