Safety Reminder
by Karen McKelvey
December 15, 2008
The stormy weather hitting Southern California starting today means that our local flood control channels and urban rivers are already filling with swift-moving water that can turn into raging death traps.
An urgent safety reminder, especially for children, is that it’s very dangerous to play in — or around — flood control channels and urban rivers. Please use extreme caution and remember to “Stay Away & Stay Alive.”
In addition, the rainy season means that our local canyons, wild lands, and the areas burned in the recent fires can turn deadly because of the danger of flash floods, mudslides or debris flows. Extreme caution should be exercised in those areas, as well.
